International Projects

To address the most pressing global issues, Bond Street Theatre creates projects worldwide, in conflict and post-conflict zones, refugee areas, and with specific groups, such as women and girls or youth. These projects, often conducted in collaboration with local artists, use the theatre arts as a tool to:
  • Disseminate information
  • Achieve human rights outcomes
  • Amplify the voices of marginalized groups
  • Promote peacebuilding practices
  • Create opportunities for psychosocial support
Since 1984, Bond Street Theatre has conducted international theatre-based humanitarian programs in over 25 countries, including:
  • Creating Jerusalem’s first street theatre company with Arabs and Jews together (1984)
  • Presenting the first legal political theatre in East Berlin (1990)
  • Working with street children in Brazil (1991, 1996)
  • Creating the Performing Artists for Balkan Peace, a network of artists from 8 Balkans nations (2005)
  • Conducting an Afghan-Indian-US collaboration that performed throughout in India (2006 to 2009)
  • Working with refugees in Montreal (1987), Macedonia (1999), Pakistan (2002), and Haiti (2011-2012)
  • Collaborating with survivors of gender-based violence in Haiti (2012)
  • Working in Afghanistan to revitalize the theatre arts, creating all-women’s theatre groups to reach isolated women, working with youth leaders, and disseminating information about voter rights and access to justice (2001-present)
  • Conducting collaborative projects focusing on tolerance and corruption with partner theatre groups in Myanmar (2009-present)
