Peacebuilding, Empowerment, Healing

Bond Street Theatre initiates theatre-based projects for conflict resolution,
education and empowerment i
n critical areas worldwide.

South Sudan

Picture
The Bond Street Theatre team enjoyed a wonderful collaboration with Likikiri Collective, a multi-media arts and education organization in Juba, on a theatre project about issues critical to youth. Using theatre, music, dance and song, the youth created an entertaining performance illuminating the pull between deep-rooted rural traditions and new influences affecting youth. The play highlighted the freedom to choose one's spouse, education and career, and toured to villages in and around Juba, along with theatre workshops. Each performance was followed by direct audience dialogue.

Afghanistan

Picture
Bond Street Theatre has been working in Afghanistan since 2003 on projects that uplift the lives of women and girls, inform citizens about their legal rights, and use theatre as a means to spread essential information. Our community improvement program engaged 400+ youth in 25 provinces in activities to improve their communities. We are now deeply saddened by the Taliban's grip that may undo all of the good work we and other worthy organizations have done. The impact of our programs will remain in the mind and heart of every girl who stepped on stage and every youth who found their voice. Our hopes are with them.

South Africa

Picture
The Bond Street Theatre team is enjoying a beautiful collaboration with a talented team of youth educators from Rape Crisis Trust in Cape Town, along with local theatre director, Zandile Mentjies. We created a play about the difficult generational gaps between the old tribal ways and the modern ways enjoyed by youth in the cities. The play was performed in the townships Khayelitsha and Athlone, and strongly voiced the issues of both women and men who are fighting for racial and gender justice across South Africa and especially in the still segregated townships.
