Start Acting Up - a new teen workshop!
In 2018, Bond Street Theatre launched a free workshop series for NYC teens seeking to learn physically dynamic, socially inspired theatre techniques, and culminating in the performance of our original play The Law of the Jungle, first developed with Nangarhar Theatre of Afghanistan.
The workshop series incorporates what Bond Street has been teaching, and learning, in over 35 years of travel! Special thanks to Downtown Art for supporting the launch of this program. |
Actorbat! Workshops and Residencies
Where does Actorbatics come from?
Actorbats share many of the techniques and skills used by actors and dancers throughout the world and throughout history. Sources for the Actorbat include the Peking Opera from China, commedia dell’arte from Europe, and the masquerades of Western Africa. Students are introduced to this fascinating work with careful attention to three areas of expertise: 1) Learning personalized, individual skills relating to balance, precision, and creating characters; 2) Creating a group dynamic through cooperation and partner work; 3) Learning a style of performance to present to an audience. |
|
Each workshop is tailored to the needs and curriculum of the school, choosing from a variety of exercises and skills.

Peter and the Wolf
Peter and the Wolf with the Phoenix Woodwind Quintet has been (and continues to be!) a favorite with schools and community centers for almost twenty years. The show introduces young audiences to the great musical score of Prokofiev, the instruments that make up a woodwind ensemble, and the skills of pantomime and storytelling via the show's narrator-mime.
