Bond Street Theatre has been working in Afghanistan since 2003. Our long-term goal is to introduce culturally sensitive theatre-based educational programs into Afghan schools, especially targeting girls who have few outlets for creative physical expression and to help revitalize the arts after years of cultural repression.

Bond Street Theatre has an active Arts-in-Education program that brings us to schools, libraries and community centers throughout the New York area. In addition, our workshop programs have served as a means for healing in many situations. The group has created special programs for the children and families of 9-11 victims, workshops on Native American reservations, and projects with inner-city children and with other groups for whom the arts can serve to heal, uplift and inspire.

Created with Exile Theatre of Kabul, Afghanistan, Beyond the Mirror is the first ever US-Afghan theatre collaboration. The play is a visual journey through decades of war, portrayed through the memories and first-hand accounts of ordinary Afghans. Traditional dance, live music, visual effects, filmed montages, and creative physicality bring this tapestry of stories to life. Traditional and original music accompany the production, played by rebob artist, Quraishi.

“The play has a quiet authority, even delicacy that is truly powerful.” – Margo Jefferson, The New York Times

Cozmic Jazz—A Short History of the Universe is a satiric and humorous story about humanity—and a comic commentary on “the meaning of life.” A blend of music, dance, acrobatics, and comedy, the play abounds with curious characters and captivating imagery—all accompanied by compelling rhythms and great jazz.

Cozmic Jazz has been presented in major Festivals in France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Colombia, Venezuela, Singapore, Hungary and the US.
